Venues can't pay to move up our lists.
The order comes from a fixed rule shown on the page. What a venue posts, pays or tells us never moves a listing ahead of that rule. If anything is ever sponsored, it will be labelled and kept separate.
The rule behind each list
- Experience, “Everything” (the default). Each day is folded into blocks: “All day” first (listings that run over more than one day or say all day), then two-hour blocks from the earliest, then “After midnight”, then “Time not listed”. Inside a block, earliest start first, then title. Sports on TV comes at the end of each day. Listings that end five or more days after they start are listed together under “Running all month”, by start date, then title.
- Experience, sorted by Type. Grouped by type in the order of the filter list, then by time.
- Experience, “Short”. Up to 4 of each type per day: confirmed first, then earliest start, then title. The rest of each type is one tap away.
- TL;DR, the listings still to come. Picked by a fixed rule: still to come, confirmed first, then the soonest start, one of each type; tomorrow's heads-up is its first home game, else its first listing by the same rule. Never paid for.
- Explore, Places & things to see. Open now first (then places with no hours listed, then closed), nearest first within each, then by name. Never by rating, price or anything a venue pays for. “Nearest” is measured from the city centre. You can sort by price, Google’s rating, distance or name yourself; the default order stays the same.
What never moves a listing
- Money, or anything a venue posts, asks or tells us. A venue's own posts are listed by the same rules as everything else.
- Your picks (♥ 🤷 👎 🎯), your itinerary and your bucket list.
- What we measure on the site.
- Reports sent through Feedback.
- The venue mark “Confirmed by WATZAAA”, the member mark “ID-verified”, check-ins and labels such as “Good alone”.
- AI. It helps read the official source pages; it never chooses the order.
How we hold ourselves to it
The order is plain sorting written in our code: nobody places a listing by hand. A listing counts as confirmed when its official source shows the date and the time, or when we checked it by hand; the rules above say where that counts. Automated checks look for anything commercial, your picks, what we measure or feedback in the code that orders these lists, and fail if they find it. We don't use paid or affiliate links today; if we ever do, they will be labelled and added only after the order is set.
